Ace Cool rides
a 35 foot plus wave at Outside Pipeline/Log Cabins in 1985. This photo, shot by
Warren Bolster, from the same helicopter that dropped Ace off there on January
5th, 1985...was arguably the biggest wave ever paddled into. A postcard was made
of the photo which has sold millions of copies in Hawaii in the last 15 years.
Since the advent of Tow-In Surfing in the 1990s... this has been the wave to beat.
No-one rode a bigger wave at this spot until Big Wednesday on January 28th, 1998...
and they had to be towed in to do it! |
Ace Cool gets
sponsored by Polaris Jet Skis in 2001. Polaris gives him a Jet Ski to tow-in surf
at Jaws. His first big mission for Polaris is to deliver a brand new Polaris Vigare
1200 Jet Ski to Laird Hamilton on Maui. Laird needs it for the movie "Endless
Summer 3". Ace winds up crossing the channel from Oahu to Molokai in 30 mile an
hour winds in mid-March. He gets in after dark... on instinct and a wing and a
prayer. The next day he rides to Maui. Mission accomplished! Cartoon rendition
