The Life And Times Of Ace Cool Big Wave Surfer
and all around Waterman...

Alec Cooke aka Ace Cool was born and raised near Brennecke's Beach on Kauai.
He learned to swim at the age of 3, when he fell into a swimming pool's deep end and swam to the shallow end by instinct. After telling his parents about it, they enrolled him in Red Cross swimming lessons. He was an avid pool and ocean swimmer from that point on. He began bodysurfing at the age of 4 and boardsurfing at the age of 5. He began competitive swimming training at the age of 6 and continued to swim competitively throughout high school and college.  He also swam each weekend with wild dolphins off the south shore of Kauai.  His father took him out to meet the dolphins in a small motorboat and he befriended them with buckets of fish and a whistle. Hence the nickname "the dolphin-boy of Kauai".

Currently living on North Shore,  I still surf daily in the winter and am very in tune with the buoys, the  national weather service, George Mason, Pat
Caldwell and surf forecasting in general. Long and short term.

12 years of home ownership at Jocko's near Chun's Reef (where there are no

Have made several Channel Crossings on a Jet Ski between Oahu-Molokai
and Molokai-Oahu and also Maui-Molokai
and Molokai-Maui. Crossed as a pace boat on a jet-ski for Ron Barron in
the Molokai to Oahu "Kanaka i Kaika" canoe race 3x...rode there from
Maui or Oahu alone. I prefer channel crossings alone.
It is good for the soul. I always take etra gas, an EPRB, fins,
life-jacket, etc...
Most recently (alone) I delivered a jet-ski to Laird Hamilton on Maui on
March 10th and 11th, 2001 for use in the movie "Liquid"
(Endless Summer #3). The winds were 30 knots plus. It took 5 hours from
Oahu to Molokai
and 5 hours from Molokai to Maui. Rough seas! Straight into the wind and
10 foot plus seas with huge white-caps. Good fun!
I had to refuel in the channel from gas tanks roped onto the bike!
--------------------------------------------------
I was flown by Helicopter to outer reef
Pipeline (Log Cabins) in 1985 and caught a 35 footer! (See Postcard) In
1984, I was flown by Helicopter to Outside Makaha and caught a 35
footer. I surfed Kaena Point off a fishing boat in 1984. It was 25 foot
plus. I was out at Waimea Bay on Jan. 18th, 1985 with James Jones and
Mark Foo when the 48 footer closed out the Bay.
_________________________________
I am scuba certified. I can free-dive to 100
feet. I have cliff dived 80 feet. I have bodysurfed 20 foot Pipeline
alone and surfed 30 foot Waimea alone.
----------------------------------------------------
I would make a good City+County Lifeguard. Hopefully I will get to
Lifeguard on the North Shore in time.
------------------------------------------------------
I passed the lifeguard trials in Sept. 2000
and in Feb.2001 and on Mar. 23rd 0f 2001. I'm stoked and ready to become
a lifeguard!
